Making the decision to begin something new is always going to be a scary thought. You are making yourself vulnerable and there is always the risk of failure, but there is also the opportunity for success. Any sort of exercise is good for the body and good for the mind, but martial arts take these benefits to another level. There’s a reason we say karate makes everything better, but this really applies to all martial arts. There are many different kinds of martial arts out there to choose from, all of which offer slightly different benefits. You may have thought that Jujitsu is a bit too physical for you, maybe you want to ease yourself in with something a little calmer such as Tai Chi. We encourage you to give all martial arts a try before settle on the one (or two or three…) that is most suitable to your personality, but here are some reasons why you should practice Jujitsu:
- You’re Never Too Old
If you’re worried that embarking on the huge journey that Jujitsu entails is only for the young, you are wrong. You are never too old to begin a new journey. Yes, it might be easier when you are younger, you will definitely feel the pain more in an older body but that just makes every training session that bit more rewarding.
- Mind and Body Awareness
Jujitsu requires you to predict the movements of your opponent. You need to be aware of your mind and body and their mind and body. This requires a huge amount of skill, which you will learn during your training sessions. This mind and body awareness is a core skill that you can apply to any area of your life. It can help you to deal with stress and anger in a positive way, and can also help you to empathise with others as well as enabling you to be prepared for any danger that may come your way.
- Technique will Always Win Over Strength
There are many sports out there that really only require brute force to be successful. Jujitsu is not one of these. This is why it is such a great exercise for everyone, even if you are small and don’t have as much core body strength as your opponent you still have a chance of beating them as long as you have perfected your technique and you keep your head in the game.
- Fun, Fun, Fun.
The final point is pretty straightforward. Jujitsu is loads of fun. If you’re not sure about this, give it a go yourself and find out.
