“Mizu No Kokoro” means “A Mind Like Water”. It is a state of mind that is very similar to water. Flowing, reflective, and adaptive are only a few words that describe this state of mind. Let’s focus on these words, to help us understand how “mizu no kokoro” can help with my training. Flowing can portray my technique and how each time I display it, it should flow and show each and every motion. Being reflective can be used after each class, where I reflect on what I did, and how I can improve my training from it. And finally, being adaptive can be used when learning something new, or getting a pointer on something I have been doing. I can use my corrections and put them into my training, to not only ensure that I am doing my technique correctly, but that I am also able to improve my training. Overall, having good technique and intensity is very important to my training, however, having “a mind like water” can truly make it so much better.
