Is your child struggling at school? This is more common than you might expect. School can be incredibly challenging for some. Often, it has less to do with the difficulty of the work itself. It has more to do with setting the time aside and being determined to see it all the way through. When the rest of life seems far more exciting and is calling, putting time towards homework or paying attention in class falls to the bottom of the list. Thankfully there is a fun way to approach this.
For decades, creative parents and coaches have used exercise as a way of focusing their own or their child’s attention on improving grades. As the majority of kids will love karate, let’s take a moment to review how this amazing martial art practice can be used to boost grades, as well as confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth.
Directly Addressing an Indirect Problem
When something is directly a matter, we can usually approach it and set it right. For example, if a student goes to school hungry without eating breakfast they will do more poorly than a student who starts the day off with breakfast. The solution? Eat a healthy, filling breakfast in the mornings.
In terms of boosting grades, this is not a direct problem that can be addressed simply by willing grades to be higher. However, you can address and improve certain skills which will translate to better grades down the road. Issues of focus, motivation, and determination can be improved through fun and engaging activities like karate.
Improving Focus, Strength, and Self-Esteem
Ask anyone who has ever practiced karate, and they will tell you first and foremost that it is fun. As a karate student you master moves, rank up in skill levels, and gradually become part of an art that is both intriguing and highly rewarding.
What makes karate so successful for boosting grades is that it teaches people all the indirect things that are also fantastic for improving grades. Karate teaches self-determination, self-reliance, skill improving, how to get over challenges, how to overcome obstacles, and how to stay focused. It can be incredibly beneficial and allow you or your child to better approach the world around them. Improving not only their grades, karate can give your kids the confidence to improve other aspects of their lives. Because of this, karate continues to be one of the best ways to improve grades.
If you are concerned about your child struggling with poor grades, you should do all of the usual things – meet with the teacher, consider signing up for tutoring, help your child with homework, and so on. Just don’t forget to add “sign up for karate” to the list!
