We all know that drinking more water is important for our health in more ways than we probably recognize. Staying hydrated helps keep our muscles limber, our minds focused, and our spirits raised. In recognition of the Academy of Martial Arts’ monthly theme Eat Strong, we have put together a few tips and tricks to help you reach for more water throughout the day and drink to your health.
Rise and Shine
Like strapping on your shoes and heading to the gym first thing in the morning, grab a glass of water to drink as soon as you awake. Not only will this help to wake up your internal systems, but it will also help to detoxify your body at the same time. Make this a morning routine. Bring a full glass of water and place on your nightstand when you go to sleep, so there will be no excuse.
Buy Two Reusable Water Bottles
You may be wondering why two? Take one of the bottles with you to work, and leave the other at home. Having a water bottle on your desk will help you keep track of how much water you’ve had throughout the day and assist in reminding you to drink it more often. This may also help you reduce the amount of caffeine you consume.
Drink Tea
In the wintertime, drinking water can be a particularly challenging feat to achieve. Between the frigid, cold temperatures and frosted windows, a glass of cool water is the last thing we tend to reach for. So why not instead, drink some tea or some hot water with lemon for flavour? Warm up those chilled bones and hydrate at the same time.
Snack on Fruits and Veggies
Fruits and veggies are worth their weight in water more often than not. If you’re feeling peckish during the day, bring some cut up fruit and veggies to munch on. Not only will this provide nutrients for your body, but it will also help sneak in extra water to keep you hydrated.
One for One
Let’s be honest – it’s impractical to give up all of the other drinks we love. So instead of throwing in the towel, simply compromise – one for one. For every coffee or alcoholic beverage you have, drink a glass of water after it – Simple. Life is all about compromising.
You don’t have to feel defeated against the fleeting hours of the day that seem to consume our ability to drink enough water. By using these quick tricks, you can easily consume more water without giving up all of those other liquids you love.
