So you’re busy and on the run like most of the population. It’s easy to just grab something from a drive-thru or go without snacking at all when you’re short on time. However, both options prove to be unhealthy. With a little prep work you can make healthy snacks in a snap. Here are a few options.
Power Smoothie
Dig out the blender and keep it on the counter. If it’s out in plain sight you will be more inclined to use it on a daily basis. Stock up the freezer with some frozen essentials for a power smoothie such as frozen kale, frozen strawberries, and frozen mango. Frozen foods are awesome for smoothies because they don’t spoil as fast as fresh food. Throw all of your desired frozen foods in the blender with some orange or pineapple juice (watch for high sugar content) and toss in some yogurt and voila! You have yourself a quick, delicious, and healthy snack. Pour it in a portable container for ease of transportation if you are on the go.
PBBW
What is this you ask? A peanut butter and banana wrap, of course! Incredibly easy to make and delicious to eat. Peanut butter gives you a bit of protein while the banana gives you potassium, putting it all in a wrap is a low-carb method to eat it all together in a clean, on-the-go way.
Celery and Hummus
Remember as a kid your parents would make you peanut butter in celery with raisins on it? Well elevate that a bit to create some different flavours and introduce celery with a hummus filling! Get creative with the toppings you add, like dried cranberries or almond slivers. Pretty delicious and super easy.
Parfait
Don’t let the fancy name throw you off. Parfaits are an excellent and easy way to get a lot of good things into one snack. It’s all about delicious layering. Begin with a Greek yogurt base and build up from there with your favorite fruit or berries, a layer of Nutella, a layer of granola or trail mix, some almonds, some more Nutella if you like, whatever you decide you get to make. Just steer clear of the gummy worms and fudge sauce.
Bean Burrito
An easy and delicious snack is a simple bean burrito. Simply load up a tortilla with black beans, salsa, and cheese and heat it up in the microwave oven for a few minutes and you have yourself an easily prepared bean burrito filled with nutrients.
Snacking can be fun, but snacking on healthy food is the best way to get yourself through the day! There is no need to compromise on taste when it comes to snacking. Just put a little effort in and enjoy the fruits of your minimal labour!
